FRESHMAN LAUREN EVANS EARNS ATLANTIC 10 SOFTBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONORS

Temple Freshman 3B Lauren Evans was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the week of March 31. Evans hails from Mission Viejo, California. In two games against the University of Rhode she posted a .400 average (2-5) while knocking in five runs, including a grand slam, in helping the Owls split the doubleheader with the Rams.
In the first game, Evans was 1-2 at the plate in the Owls' losing effort. In game two, Evans sparked the Temple offense with a bases-loaded home run, her second long ball of the season. That hit gave the Owls a 6-0 lead, and proved to eventually be the winning hit of the game. She also sacrificed in another run to earn her 5th RBI of the day.
Temple (15-15, 5-1 A-10) did not play their Atlantic 10 Conference series against UMass on Sunday due to inclement weather. The Owls next stop is a non-conference game against local rival Pennsylvania. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9 at 3:30 and will be held at Penn, weather permitting.
