TEMPLE'S LEFTWICH AND WALLACE SIGN NFL ROOKIE FREE AGENT CONTRACTS

Temple defensive backs Terrance Leftwich (Washington, D.C./Anacostia HS) and Jamal Wallace (Port Norris, N.J./Millville HS) have signed National Football League rookie free agent contracts with the Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles, respectively. The signings bring the number of 2002 senior Owls poised to enter NFL camps to four. Defensive tackle Dan Klecko (fourth round, New England) and offensive tackle Dave Yovanovits (seventh round, New York Jets) were selected in last weekend's draft.

Leftwich (6-0, 185), a team captain, made 77 tackles (54 solo), three interceptions and 13 pass break-ups in 2002. He was named the Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Week after making six tackles, two PBUs, an INT and a fumble recovery versus Rutgers on Nov. 16. Leftwich started 33 straight games at cornerback to conclude his collegiate career. He ranks seventh all-time at Temple with 10 career interceptions.

Wallace (6-0, 190), an Honorable Mention ECAC Division I-A All Star in 2002, led the Owls with 96 tackles (65 solo) while also registering five PBUs, one INT and a forced fumble. Wallace concluded his Temple career by making 34 consecutive starts at free safety. A member of Head Coach Bobby Wallace's first recruiting class, he was unable to participate under under NCAA guidelines in 1998 but completed the necessary coursework to earn an additional season of eligibility in 2002.
