5.7.03 | Softball

The Atlantic 10 Conference announced the 2003 All-Conference softball selections on May 7, at a banquet held on the evening prior to the first day of play in the conference tournament. Two Owls received all-conference recognition, which is given to the best player at each position, and one designated player as voted by the coaches in the Atlantic 10.

Junior catcher Alexis Gary (San Diego, CA/Mt. Carmel) and senior designated player Bari Lynn Pflueger (Allentown, PA/Parkland) were selected, This season Gary leads the Owls with a .378 average, 12 doubles, and three home runs. She posts a .421 average and a .658 slugging percentage in Atlantic 10 play.

Pflueger, an all-conference selection last season at first base, was limited to the designated player position this season because of a shoulder injury. She finished the regular season with a .295 average, two home runs and 13 RBI. In conference games she was .417 at the plate going 15 for 36, with a .556 slugging percentage.

The second-seeded Owls open the tournament tomorrow, May 8, against third-seeded Saint Joseph's at 2 p.m. following the Massachusetts-Fordham game. All games will be played at the University of Massachusetts softball field.
