OWLS LACROSSE FALLS TO SECOND-RANKED MARYLAND IN NCAA OPENING ROUND
5.8.03 | Women's Lacrosse
Junior Tiffany Pulaski (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) led the Owls with three goals and was the only multi-goal scorer for Temple. Senior Deanna Radcliffe (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), sophomore Megan Condon (Abington, Pa./Abington) and freshman Patty Glavin (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) each had a goal. Senior goalie Sheena Oommen (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park) saw all the action in goal and had 17 saves for the Owls.
Jessica Dorney led the Terrapins and all scorers on the afternoon with six points on five goals and an assist as Maryland set a new NCAA Tournament record for goals in the win.
Early on, the game looked to be more of a defensive struggle than one that would see 32 goals scored. Maryland opened the scoring with 20:28 remaining in the first half to take a 1-0 lead. The Terrapins doubled their advantage nearly a minute later but Temple responded on a goal by Radcliffe with 16:24 remaining to close the gap to 2-1. That's as close as the Owls would get as Maryland went on an 8-1 run to finish the half with a 10-2 lead.
In the second stanza, Maryland also tallied first but Temple answered with a goal by Pulaski with 28:18 remaining. After that the Terrapin offense took over and when the smoke cleared, the Owls were on the short end of a lopsided score.
