Charleston, S.C. - The Temple women's soccer team traveled south to open its 2003 season, but no southern hospitality was forthcoming as North Carolina State downed the Owls, 5-0, in the Quality Inn and Suites Classic hosted by the College of Charleston.

The Wolfpack struck first with a goal from senior forward Adrienne Barnes at the four-minute mark after senior defender Tara Knauss sent through an assist from the midline. Senior forward Lindsey Underwood earned her third goal of the season when she played a ricocheted shot from sophomore forward Erin Ardler in the box at the 20:45 mark. Freshman midfielder Mandela Schumacher-Hodge tallied the third goal after Underwood crossed a low ball from the right flank into the box four minutes later.

NC State kept the ball rolling with its fourth goal of the match as Ardler took a pass from Barnes on the right flank and sent the ball in diagonally from 10 yards out. The second goal of the half came after junior Erin Griswold took a shot from the right side again, but this time the ball bounced off the foot of a Temple defender in the box.

The Wolfpack tallied 23 shots, 17 of which were on goal. NC State held Temple to just one shot on goal, which resulted in a save by sophomore keeper Lauren Georges.

Jackie Mauro played the first half in goal for the Owls, recording six saves against three goals allowed. Elizabeth Tarasevich stopped five shots in the second half while allowing two Wolfpack scores.

Temple plays host Charleston on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
