SIENA DEFEATS TEMPLE, 2-1, IN WOMEN'S SOCCER
9.10.03 | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA - Freshman Kristen Turner tallied a goal in the 79th minute to lead the Siena Saints to a 2-1 come-from- behind win over the Temple Owls at Temple Stadium. It marked the first game in nearly 10 years that Seamus McWilliams was not on the sidelines for Temple. The Owls all-time winningest coach resigned for personal reasons late Tuesday.
After a scoreless first half, Temple got on the board first with a goal by sophomore Samantha Vietry in the 60th minute. Junior Courtney Eaton assisted on the play. Less than a minute later Siena answered as junior Erin DeMatteo finished a play in front of the net off a pass from fellow junior Katie Ferry. Turner then tallied the game-winner off an assist from junior Jen Kies to give Siena its first win of the season against two defeats.
Temple junior goalkeeper Jackie Mauro had four saves on the day while junior Noel Cox also recorded saves for Siena.
The Owls, 0-4 on the season, next host St. Francis-Pa., on Saturday, September 13 at 1:00 p.m.
