WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO STONY BROOK, 5-0

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Katie Kramer scored two goals to lead the Stony Brook women's soccer team to a 5-0 win over visiting Temple en route to capturing the 2003 Holiday Inn Express Invitational title on Sunday afternoon at LaValle Stadium. The loss was the first since interim head coach David Jones took over the helm of the Owls women's soccer program.

The Seawolves (4-2-1) took control of the game from the opening period, outshooting the Owls (2-5) by a 14-1 margin while also holding a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks. Stony Brook took a 1-0 lead just over 31 minutes into the contest when Kramer hit a weak shot from about 12 yards out that was deflected by the goalie back to Kramer, who fired the rebound off the left goal post and into the back of the net.

Stony Brook continued its dominance in the second and tacked on another goal nine minutes in as Kramer headed a corner kick by Chelsea Van Horn to Katelyn Martin, who volleyed the ball into the net to give the Seawolves a 2-0 lead.

Kramer added her second score of the game at the 77:47 mark when she half-volleyed a corner from Van Horn that slipped through Temple goalkeeper Jackie Mauro's hands and in for a 3-0 Stony Brook lead. Mauro had a season-high 12 saves in the match.

Just under five minutes later, Joy Gueverra redirected a cross from Marisa Nucci for the Seawolves' fourth goal of the game. WIth about five minutes to go, Danielle Lewis closed out the scoring when she headed a cross from Kendra Graber that bounced over Mauro's head and into the back of the net.

Stony Brook's Victoria Feliciano was named the tournament's offensive MVP, while SBU's Brittany Norwood took home defensive honors. Katelyn Martin and Kramer were also named to the all-tourney team for Stony Brook. For Temple, Courtney Eaton, Stephanie Vietry and Trish Dalton

Stony Brook, which has won three straight contests, improved to 5-0-2 at LaValle since the stadium opened a year ago.

Temple will next host Niagara on Friday, September 26 at Temple Stadium. Match time is 4:00 p.m.
