Sophomore center Candice Dupree, the reigning Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Week, leads the Owls in scoring (16.2 ppg.) and rebounding (7.1 rpg.). Dupree is also the Atlantic 10 Conference leader in field goal percentage (63.6 percent). Junior guard Cynthia Jordan, Temple's second leading scorer (10.2 ppg.) tops the team in assists (4.6 apg.) and leads the A-10 in assist/turnover ratio at 2.4/1.
Sophomore forward Tanya Rhodes leads Rhode Island in scoring (13.5 ppg.) and rebounding (7.0 rpg.). Senior guard Denise King tops Rhode Island in assists at 4.4 assists per contest. Philly native Shayla Johnson, a 5-10 senior guard gives the Rams scoring punch off the bench as she is the team's third-leading scorer at 11.5 points per game.
Temple (7-6, 3-0 A-10) holds the all-time series edge at 26-13. Rhode Island (9-6, 2-2 A-10) won the last meeting between the teams, ironically on January 18, 2003 (exactly one year to the date of this year's game) at the Ryan Center. The final score was 80-73. The Rams come to Philadelphia fresh off a 63-57 home victory over Massachusetts on Friday, January 16. Temple is riding a three-game win streak with its latest victory coming over St. Bonaventure, 70-56 in a game played at Elmira, N.Y. on January 11.
