LA SALLE TOPS TEMPLE, 3-0, IN WOMEN'S SOCCER

10.15.04 | Women's Soccer

AMBLER, PA -- Freshman Kristen Hextall scored twice to lead the La Salle Explorers to a 3-0 win over the Temple Owls in an Atlantic 10 Conference women's soccer match on a rainy Friday afternoon at Ambler Field. La Salle improved to 6-6-2, 2-4 in A-10 play with the win.  Temple fell to 4-10 and 1-5 in conference play.

Hextall scored her first goal of the game with 35 seconds to play in the first half to break a scoreless tie.  The two teams played mostly in the middle of the field through the first 44 minutes before Hextall took a pass from Kim Lisun in the center of the field and went in on a breakway.  The Explorer freshman dribbled past a chasing Owl defender and then blasted one by Temple goalie Jackie Mauro for the game-winner.

As the second half started, so did the heavy rain.  The Explorers dominated play throughout the period, finally registering their second goal when Hextall tallied in the 67th minute on assists from Erin McNulty and Heather Barclay.  Just 25 seconds later Alexis Petrucci scored the final goal of the contest with McNulty and Kelly Lyons assisting on the play.

Senior goalkeeper Kerry Schamberger made for saves in recording the shutout.  Mauro posted eight saves in goal for Temple.

The Owls take the field again on Sunday when they host A-10 rival Fordham at Ambler Field.  The match starts at 1:00 p.m.
