WASHINGTON NAMED FIRST-EVER OWLSPORTS.COM ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

PHILADELPHIA- Junior quarterback Walter Washington has been named the Owlsports,com Athlete of the Month for the month of September. Washington becomes the first Temple student-athlete to earn the honor which was instituted with the start of the 2004-05 academic year.
An exception athlete, Washington rushed for a pair of TDs in each of the Owls' first four games. He has now carried for 12 TDs in his last five games and accounted for 20 TDS (14 rushing, 6 passing) in his last nine contests dating back to last season. Washington led the Big East and ranked fifth in Div I-A in scoring with a 12.50 per-game average prior to the team's game against Bowling Green State on October 2. He was also among the nation's leaders in total offense (261.3, 23rd) and points responsibility (14.0, t-23rd).
A native of Daytona Beach, FL, Washington had 341 yards of total offense against Florida A&M, including 119 rushing yards, his third career 100-yard rushing game and fourth contest with over 300 yards of total offense. He engineered scoring drives of 98, 94, 67, 66, 61 and 32 yards to help snap a nine-gameTemple losing streak. Washington's 58 total plays at Toledo is the most for a Big East player this season.
