LAMPLUGH'S LATE GOAL LIFTS WOMEN'S SOCCER PAST XAVIER, 2-1

AMBLER, PA -- Junior Kate Lamplugh lifted the Temple women's soccer team to a dramatic 2-1 win over visiting Xavier on a beautiful Friday afternoon at Ambler Socce Field.  The Owl forward scored on a breakaway with 1:52 remaining in regulation to lift the team to its first Atlantic 10 Conference win of the season.  Temple is now 4-8, 1-3 in conference play.

Xavier (3-9, 0-5) got on the scoreboard first as Lauren Giesting tallied in the 34th mionute off an assist by Meredith Frendt.  The Owls' Katie Louth countered that nine minutes later, finishing a header from teammate Melissa Foley in the 43rd minute to tie the game at 1-1.

The second half started out very aggressively as both teams committed numerous fouls.  The pace was quick, but the game was played mostly at midfield.  With two minutes left Lamplugh out-ran a Musketeer defender, swung to the right side of the box and drove a ball past the diving Musketeer goalkeeper Andrea Garber (one save).

Senior Jackie Mauro got the start in goal and record four saves in posting the win.

The Owls next play Sunday when they host defending A-10 Champion Dayton. Game time is set for 1:00pm.
