2.1.04 | Football

Dan Klecko became the second former Temple football player to win a Super Bowl ring in as many seasons when Adam Vinatieri's field goal sailed between the uprights in the final seconds to give the New England Patriots a 32-29 win over the Carolina Panthers Sunday evening. Last year, former Cherry & White linebacker Al Singleton, currently with the Dallas Cowboys, was a member of Tampa Bay's Super Bowl XXXVII championship squad.

Klecko made 17 tackles (12 solo), two sacks, a fumble recovery and a blocked kick during his rookie season. He was listed on the Patriots' depth chart at three positions: defensive tackle, defensive end and outside linebacker. Klecko also lined up at fullback in the team's goal-line offense. In addition to being the blocking back on several touchdowns, he carried twice for five yards.

The Colts Neck, N.J. native finished his Owl career by being named the 2002 Big East Defensive Player of the Year and was a Second Team Associated Press All-American. In 40 career games (36 starts) for the Cherry & White, Klecko made 204 tackles (142 solo), 65 TFLs, 26 sacks, 70 QBHs, five forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He was selected by the Patriots with the 20th pick in the fourth round (117th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft.
