SOFTBALL DROPS EXTRA INNING GAME TO COASTAL CAROLINA

Richelle Villescas started on the mound for Temple and held Coastal Carolina scoreless through seven innings of play.
Following the seven-inning pitching duel, the game entered the tie-breaker round, in which each team begins the inning with a runner on second. Temple could not convert in the top of the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth Carolina's Kristina Shepard singled to left driving in the game-winning run.
At the plate freshman Adrienne Respher went 2-for-3 with a double in the fifth and a single in the seventh. Temple's only other hit came from junior Aida Esquer, who beat out an infield single to short.
During the game, senior Katie Weigle reached base on a Carolina error and promptly stole second base. With the stolen base Weigle ties Judy O'Brien for the most steals in Temple softball history (34).
Villescas, charged with the loss, recorded one strikeout on five hits for the Owls.
Carolina's winning hurler Christina Doyle struck-out eight batters on three hits.
The softball Temple team is back in action next weekend at the Univesity of Southern Florida Invitational Tournament.
