PHILADELPHIA - Sophomore center Candice Dupree led all scorers with 16 points, including the game winner, as the Temple women's basketball team defeated Saint Joseph's, 58-56 on February 19 at the Liacouras Center. The win improves the Owls to 16-8 overall, 12-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference play and clinches the A-10 East Division as they hold a three game lead on the Hawks (15-9, 9-4 A-10) with three games remaining on the schedule and have swept the season series against Saint Joseph's.

Joining Dupree, who also had three blocks and a steal, in double figures was senior guard Christena Hamilton who tallied 12 points and was the only other Owl in double digits. Hamilton also led Temple in rebounding with seven boards and had four assists and a blocked shot. Junior guard Cynthia Jordan added nine points and had a game-high five assists.

Amra Mehmedic led Saint Joseph's with 15 points. Erin Brady was the only other Hawks player to score in double figures with 14 points.

Temple held a slim 22-20 advantage at halftime but the Hawks controlled most of the second stanza. Saint Joseph's held an eight point advantage, 51-43, its largest lead of the game, with 5:37 remaining in regulation. But the Owls dug in defensively and battled back to tie the score, 56-56 on a layup by Hamilton with 51 ticks on the clock. After freshman Kamesha Hairston stole the ball on Saint Joseph's next possession, the stage was set for Dupree to nail the game winner on a jumpshot with just four seconds left on the clock.

Next up for the Owls, a trip to the Bronx, New York to butt heads with the Fordham Rams on Sunday, February 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Gymnasium.
