WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SOARS PAST LA SALLE, 71-59, IN REGULAR SEASON HOME FINALE

PHILADELPHIA - Freshman forward Kamesha Hairston scored a career-high 15 points to lead the Temple women's basketball team (18-8, 14-1 A-10) past La Salle (14-12, 7-9 A-10), 71-59, on February 26 at the Liacouras Center.

Joining Hairston, who also had four rebounds, two assists and two steals, in double figures were fellow freshman Britney Jordan (13 points), senior guard Christena Hamilton (10 points, team-high four assists) and sophomore center Candice Dupree (10 points, game-high nine rebounds).

Crista Ricketts led La Salle with a game-high 20 points. Kat Foley (12 points) was the only other Explorers player in double figures. Meghan Wilkinson topped La Salle in rebounding with seven boards.

Although La Salle had the edge in overall shooting (50 percent to 43 percent), three-point shooting (57 percent to 27 percent) and assists (17-14), Temple had the advantage in rebounds (39-25 including a 20-3 edge in offensive boards), turnovers (Temple 8, La Salle 15) and steals (10-5). The Owls, who trailed at the half, 27-26, outscored the Explorers 45-32 in the second stanza.

Next up for Temple, a road trip to face A-10 West leader George Washington on Sunday, February 29, in a game that will determine the number one overall seed for the upcoming Atlantic 10 Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 noon.
