WOMEN'S TENNIS OPENS 2004 SEASON WITH 7-0 WIN OVER DREXEL

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University women's tennis team opened its 2004 season in fine fashion, sweeping visiting Drexel, 7-0, at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Complex on Saturday night. All three Temple doubles teams swept their respective matches by the score of 8-0. The only tightly-contested match of the day was freshman Jackie Sy's at number six singles. Sy ended up besting sophomore Jen Rimmey, 7-5, 6-3 in the contest.

Senior Danira Penic, the 2003 A-10 Outstanding Performer, teamed with sophomore Ana Maslesa, at number one doubles, defeating the Dragon team of Kristy Pron and Brandy Tricker. Freshman Jennifer Goeta and sophomore Laura Seiverling won at number two doubles over Kelly Martinez and Michelle Septak. In third doubles it was senior Lara Ercegovic and sophomore Lauren Verrall besting Jillian Toussaint and Jen Rimmey.

In singles play, Penic won 6-1, 6-1 over Pron at the number one position . Maslesa had an easier time at second singles, 6-0, 6-1, over Tricker. Verrall, playing at #3 singles, downed Martinez, 6-1, 6-1. Goeta shutout Septak, 6-0, 6-0 while Seiverling defeated Toussaint, 6-0, 6-1.

The Owls next play at William & Mary on Saturday, February 14.
