2.8.04 | Women's Basketball

CINCINNATI, OHIO - Junior guard Cynthia Jordan led a trio of double digit scorers with 16 points as the Temple women's basketball team defeated Xavier, 61-50 on February 8 at the Cintas Center. With the win, the Owls improve to 9-1 in conference play and remain in first place in the Atlantic 10's East Division.

Joining Jordan, who also had four assists and tied a career-high with five steals, were sophomore center Candice Dupree (14 points, game-high 7 rebounds) and senior guard Christena Hamilton (10 points, 3 assists).

Tara Boothe led Xavier (15-8, 7-5 A-10) with a game-high 20 points. Adeola Olanrewaju (10 points) was the only other Musketeer to score in double figures.

Temple (13-8, 9-1 A-10), which led the game from start to finish, built a 36-20 halftime lead. In the second half, the Owls increased the margin to as many as 21 points, effectively eliminating all hopes of a Xavier comeback. Temple held the advantage in nearly every statistical category including shooting (47 percent to 39 percent), rebounding (29-26), steals (12-5), assists (16-11) and turnovers, forcing 17 while committing 16.

The Owls will play their next three games at home beginning with Thursday, February 12 when Temple hosts Duquesne at the Liacouras Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
