WOMEN'S TENNIS ENDS SKID WITH 6-1 WIN AT DUQUESNE

PITTSBURGH -- The Temple University women's tennis team snapped an 11-match losing streak with a 6-1 win over host Duquesne Monday afternoon. The 2003 A-10 Champion Owls won all but the third singles match. Senior Lara Ercegovic had to retire at third singles due to a knee problem.

Senior Danira Penic, who earlier in the day had been named the A-10 Player of the Week, picked up her 11th win at number one singles, defeating Alina Klinova, 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Ana Maslesa then downed Katie Riedinger, 6-1, 6-0 at number two singles. Penic and Maslesa also teamed at first doubles to post an 8-2 win.

Temple's Lauren Verrall, Laura Seiverling and Jen Goeta won at fourth through sixth singles, respectively with Ercegivic and Goeta picking up the deciding doubles win at the third spot, 9-8 (7-1).

The Owls, 2-11, next play at Princeton on March 27 (3:00 p.m.). Duquesne falls to 8-7 on the season.
