SOFTBALL GOES 1-1 AGAINST VILLANOVA IN DOUBLEHEADER

With a no-hitter going into the seventh inning, Villescas gave-up a base hit to centerfield off the bat of Villanova's Robin Flier. In need of all three outs, Villescas and the Owls' defensive unit held the Wildcats hitless for the remainder of the inning.
Senior left fielder Lynsey Grace singled to shortstop with two outs in the bottom of first inning to initiate Temple's only scoring stanza of the game. Senior catcher Alexis Gary followed with a double hit hard into deep center field to send Grace home.
Villescas (9-9) struck-out five batters as she pitched a complete game in Temple's shut-out victory. For Villanova Shannon Williams took the loss.
In the second game Temple went through its entire pitching staff and relied on Villescas to pitch four and one-thirds innings in relief.
Villanova scored all four runs in the top of the third. With the bases loaded and one out, Temple sophomore Katherine White replaced starting pitcher Kim Watkins. Villanova's Ricci Lugo singled to center field to score Villanova's first run. White walked home two runs for the Wildcats. Villescas entered the game in relief and walked home the final run of the inning, putting the Wildcats ahead 4-1.
Watkins, who spent two and one-thirds innings on the mound, took the loss for the Owls. This season Watkins owns a 4-1 overall record. Villanova's starting pitcher Kristen Haynes earned the win and advanced her overall record to 2-5 on the season.
The Temple softball team (14-13) will next be in action on Wednesday, March 31, when it travels to Princeton.
