SOFTBALL TAKES TWO WINS IN SPEEDLINE INVITATIONAL

Sophomore Jessica Rohn went 2-3 at the plate with one run and one RBI to lead the Owls against Jacksonville. Following junior Aida Esquer's single and a Jacksonville error in the third, Rohn contributed the second single of the inning and sent Esquer home.
The Dolphins tied the score in the top of the fifth. Temple freshman pitcher Richelle Villescas walked the first batter of the inning, senior Ronda Campo. Sophomore Melissa Coburn replaced Campo as a pinch runner and eventually scored the tying run off senior Dianna Korcak's grounder to second.
The Owls answered back immediately by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman Adrienne Repsher led off the inning with a walk. Freshman Emily Moller entered the game as pinch runner for Repsher and advanced to second on sophomore Lauren Evans's sacrifice bunt. Rohn singled to second, sending Moller to third. Senior Kaite Weigle picked up her first RBI of the tournament as she singled to shortstop, allowing Moller to score. Rohn scored the second run of inning as senior Lynsey Grace sent a base hit into center field.
With two outs in the sixth, the Owls kept the bats alive and drove in two additional runs. Freshman designated player Makaela Compton initiated the scoring stanza with a single to center field. Pinch runner freshman Shawn Casey advanced to third on a Repsher single to right field. Junior Melissa McCartney reached second on an error by Jacksonville's right fielder Kacey Yourous. Both Repsher and Casey scored on the error.
Picking up the win for Temple, freshman Richelle Villescas pitched her first complete game of the season. For Jacksonville, sophomore Katie Dobson took the loss.
The Owls continued to dominate offensively in the second game against Coastal Carolina as they put runs on the board in the first and second inning.
Rohn led-off the game with a walk. Weigle made it to first on a bunt and sent Rohn to second. Senior Alexis Gary singled and Rohn crossed the plate on Coastal Carolina error.
In the second inning Evans initiated the offensive effort with a single to left. Esquer followed with another single to left. On a Weigle double down the right field line, Evans scored the final game-winning run for the Owls.
Coastal Carolina managed one run in the top of the fifth. Freshman Danyelle Gerdts scored on sophomore Lynee Hastings's double to center field.
Watkins earned her first victory of the season, while Gerdts took the loss.
The Owls, 4-8, next take on Rutgers on March 6 as they continue play in the Speedline Invitational on March 6.
