PHILADELPHIA - Throughout this season, the Temple women's basketball team has shown resiliency and resolve and it would need plenty of both before recording a 55-48 Atlantic Championship Quarterfinal win over Xavier on March 6 at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse on the campus of Saint Joseph's University. With the win, the Owls advance to the A-10 semis where they will face the winner of the Richmond vs. Rhode Island game on Sunday, March 7 at 4:00 p.m.

Sophomore center Candice Dupree led Temple with game-highs of 16 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots. Senior guard Christena Hamilton (15 points) was the only other Owl to score in double figures.

Miranda Green led Xavier with 12 points and was joined in double digits by Tara Boothe who scored 11 points and also led the Musketeers in rebounding with nine boards.

Things did not begin well for Temple (19-9) as Xavier (17-12) scored the first basket of the game and quickly raced out to a double-digit advantage. The Musketeers increased their lead to as many as 20 as they were ahead 24-4 with 5:38 remaining in the first half. The Owls responded with a 15-4 run to close the gap to 30-21 at intermission.

In the second stanza, Temple used an 11-2 run in the first 4:55 to tie the score at 32 with 15:05 remaining on the clock. The game was a battle from that moment until the Owls finished off the Musketeers with an 8-2 spurt over the final 2:48 to seal the win.
