SOFTBALL TAKES THIRD IN SPEEDLINE INVITATIONAL

Junior Aida Esquer initiated the Owls's third inning scoring stanza against Ole Miss with a single to left center. Senior Jessica Rohn laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Esquer. A single from Katie Weigle combined with a Ole Miss error sent Esquer across the plate for the Owls's first run of the game. On the play Weigle advanced to third and scored as a result of passed ball.
Senior Kim Watkins picked up the win in 3.2 innings. Ole Miss pitcher Dana Brill took the loss.
In the second game against Tennesse Tech, freshman Adreinne Repsher nailed a base hit to notch two RBIs and score the first of two runs in the second inning. Senior Alexis Gary hit the first single of the inning, following a junior Laura Gutscher walk. Gutscher made it to third on the play, allowing Gary to advance to second. Repsher's base hit scored the pair, putting Temple in the lead, 2-0. Freshman Lauren Evans singled on the next at-bat to score Repsher and put the Owls ahead, 3-0.
Tennessee Tech managed to score one run in the fifth inning. Following a Christina Reyes double, Lyndsey William hit the RBI single.
Freshman starting pitcher Richelle Villescas went five innings and earned the win for the Owls. Senior Katherine White pitched two innings in relief. In two innings White allowed no hits and struck-out two batters.
With the two wins on the final day of the Speedline Invitational, Temple improves its overall record to 7-8. The Owls will next be in action on Tuesday, March 9 at the University of South Florida Tournament, where they take on Boston University at 10:00 a.m. and Northern Illinois at 12:00 p.m.
