AMBLER, PA -- Temple University senior Lynsey Grace homered twice against local Atlantic 10 rival La Salle to lead the softball team to two victories in doubleheader action at Ambler Softball Complex on Saturday. The Owls (18-13, 3-1 A-10) took the first game, 1-0, and the second, 7-0.

Grace scored Temple's only run in the first game by sending a solo shot over the fence in left center field. Freshman pitcher Richelle Villescas (11-9) struck out 10 Explorers as she picked up her fifth shutout victory of the season. Allie Wood took the loss for La Salle.

Game two remained scoreless until junior Laura Gutscher opened an Owl scoring stanza with a triple to the centerfield fence. On the next at-bat, sophomore Lauren Evens sent a double to rightfield to drive in Temple's first run of the game. Pinch runner Emily Moller entered the game for Evans and advanced to third on junior Aida Esquer's hit that dropped in short center field. Esquer's pinch runner, junior Nicole Undercuffler, was caught stealing. Following junior Melissa McCartney's walk, senior Katie Weigle reached first on an error by La Salle's third baseman, Vinnie Caputo. On the play, Weigle sent Moller across the plate for the second and final run of the inning.

With runners on second and third, senior Alexis Gary laid down a bunt to drive in Owls' only run of the fifth inning.

McCartney and Weigle each singled and waited in scoring position in the sixth inning as Grace came to the plate. Grace drove in three runs as she homered to right centerfield. Freshman Adreinne Repsher continued the Owls offensive attack as she doubled to centerfield in the next at-bat. Senior Dawn Fegeley sent an RBI double to center on the next play to put the Owls up 7-0.

Kim Watkins (6-1) picked up the win for the Owls in the second game. Watkins allowed only two hits and struck out six batters. Laura Dezolt took the second La Salle loss of the day.

With two home runs against La Salle, Grace has recorded 12 career homeruns and moved into the second place position on Temple's all-time homerun list. With three more homers this season, Grace will become the Owls all-time leader.

The softball team is next in action on Wednesday, April 21 as it travels to Saint Joseph's for another twinbill. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
