VILLESCAS BLANKS HAWKS IN DOUBLEHEADER

In the opener Melissa McCartney reached base on an error in the top of the third and advanced to second on a Katie Weigle sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Jess Rohn came to the plate and drove a two-run homerun to left-center to give TU a 2-0 lead.
Freshman Richelle Villescas earned the win as she struck out seven in the complete game shutout. Dana Travis took the loss for the Hawks.
The Cherry and White got on the board early in game two as senior Lindsey Grace doubled to right with two outs in the first. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Grace scored on freshman Adrienne Repsher's single, giving the Owls the 1-0 lead.
Temple added an insurance run in the seventh as junior Laura Gutscher singled, stole second and scored on a single by classmate Aida Esquer.
Villescas shut down Saint Joseph's again, this time in relief as she entered early in the second game for starter Kim Watkins. Villescas has not allowed an earned run. Travis took the loss for the Hawks in the second game.
Temple returns to action on Sunday, April 25 as it takes on nine-time defending A-10 Champion Massachusetts in doubleheader action at Ambler Softball Field. Prior to the game, the University will officially open the new field in a dedication celebration featuring a ceremonial first pitch by 1996 Olympic gold medalist and former Temple softball player Dionna Harris. The ceremony is slated to begin at 11:30 a.m., while the first pitch is scheduled for 12:oo p.m.
