4.22.04 | Softball
PHILADELPHIA-- Temple University will officially open its Ambler Softball Field prior to the start of its doubleheader against regional power and nine-time defending Atlantic 10 champion Massachusetts on Sunday, March 25. The grand opening celebration will include a ceremonial first pitch by 1996 Olympic gold medalist and former Temple softball player Dionna Harris. There will also be a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring the three softball head coaches in Temple's history, Ronnie Maurek (1975-91), Carol Kashow (1992-96) and Rocci Pignoli (1997-present) at 11:30 a.m.
Harris, a 1990 Temple graduate, is a two-time all-Atlantic 10 Conference selection. The 1989 A-10 Player of the Year, Harris still holds the Temple single season records for triples (12), home runs (6), batting average (.395), slugging percentage (.671) and on-base percentage (.428). All but the triples mark (1989) were set during her senior season (1990).
