4.30.04 | Football

PHILADELPHIA-Temple wide receiver Terrence Stubbs has signed a rookie free-agent contract with the New York Jets. He joins former Owl teammate and offensive lineman Dave Yovanovits on the Jets roster.

Stubbs (6-0, 195) played in 33 games (16 starts) for the Owls from 1999-2003 and made 65 career catches for 893 yards and two touchdowns. He played in the first five games in 2003, making four starts at slot receiver, before sustaining a shoulder injury at Middle Tennessee State and being sidelined for the remainder of the campaign. With Stubbs in the lineup, Temple averaged 286.6 passing yards per game. After his injury, the Owls' passing production dropped to 180.6 yards per contest over the final seven games.

Stubbs was part of a trio that set a Big East Conference record by having three players surpass 100-yards receiving at Cincinnati in 2003. He caught six passes for 123 yards, including a 71-yarder, as the Owls combined for 415 team receiving yards against the Bearcats. A week later, Stubbs was a key contributor when Temple set a school record with 19 passing first downs at Louisville.

Stubbs majored in criminal justice and was cited on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for his classroom performance at Temple. He received the team's "J. Myron Honigman Award" for spirit, dedication and loyalty to the program in 2003.
