4.9.04 | Softball
Lead-off batter Katie Weigle notched the first hit of the game as she singled to second base in the inaugural inning. With classmate Lynsey Grace at the plate, Weigle moved into scoring position by stealing second base. Grace singled to left field to drive in the Owls' lone first-inning run.
Both teams remained scoreless until the top of the sixth, when junior Aida Esquer hit an RBI double to right field to score pinch-runner Emily Moller.
Sophomore Jessica Rohn initiated the seventh-inning scoring stanza with a single to left field. Grace followed with a base hit to centerfield. A catcher's interference call loaded the bases for Temple as freshman Adrienne Repsher reached first on the play. The next batter, senior Alexis Gary, drove-in Rohn and reached first on a fielder's choice. Senior Dawn Fegeley notched her first RBI of the season as she grounded out to second to score Grace. Gary's pinch-runner, junior Nicole Undercuffler and Repsher scored on the next play, as Rider's third baseman committed a throwing error, allowing Esquer to reach first. Temple scored its final two runs of the game following an error committed by the Broncs' third baseman.
Rider dashed the Owls' hopes of a shut-out victory by scoring a single run in the bottom of the seventh. With Amanda Tu on second base, Kristin Kenavan doubled down the left field line to drive-in the Broncs only run of the game.
With five strike-outs in seven innings on the mound, senior Kim Watkins earned the complete game victory for the Owls. Maddy Boulden took the loss for Rider.
