CORNING, N.Y. -- Freshman Allison Frengs scored five goals, including the game-winner and assisted on the final goal in regulation as the Temple lacrosse team (11-7) won its fourth consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship by defeating Duquesne (14-4), 12-11 in overtime on May 8. Sophomore Corey Leader added two goals and freshman Casey Cech added an assist to round out the Temple scoring. Junior goalie Megan McLouth had a game-high 10 saves for the Owls.
Ginger Flocco led Duquesne with four goals and an assist. Goalie Sarah Pacini had nine saves for the Dukes.
Things did not start well for Temple as Duquesne opened the scoring with a goal in the game's first 45 seconds. The Owls responded and scored four of the next five tallies to pull ahead 4-2 with 17:28 remaining in the first half. However, the Dukes six straight goals and went into halftime with an 8-6 lead.
In the second stanza the action was fast and furious. The Owls pulled even, 9-9 on a free position shot by Pulaski with 9:29 remaining in regulation. Duquesne then seized control on a goal by Flocco with just 2:40 on the clock to take an 11-10 lead. Pulaski then answered with a goal on a feed from Frengs to tie the game for the final time. Temple had a chance to end the game with four seconds remaining but Pulaski's free position shot was off the mark and the game went into overtime.
Frengs scored the winning goal with 33 seconds left in the first three minutes of the six-minute overtime format. The Owls were able to keep the Dukes off the scoreboard for the remainder of overtime to seal the win and claim their fourth straight A-10 Title.
