TEMPLE FOOTBALL HELMETS TO ONCE AGAIN FEATURE THE "T"
6.29.04 | Football
"The 'Temple T' is a symbol of the University that is widely identified and by utilizing it on our helmets, we provide consistency with our institutional message," said Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw. "From a spectator's point of view, the 'T' leaves little doubt as for which university our student-athletes compete."
The new helmet is strikingly similar to the one the team wore from 1989 to 1993, except for the shade of cherry. The new version is true to the "Temple cherry red" color adopted by the Department of Athletics in 1996.
For the past four seasons (2000-03) the Temple helmet featured the "aggressive owl face" logo on a white shell and black face mask with one cherry and two black stripes augmenting the crown.
Temple switched to a white shell in 1996, sporting a helmet adorned with the flying "dominant owl" logo and featuring a black face mask. The program has worn helmets featuring both white and cherry shells with various stripes, lettering, face masks and logos since its inaugural season in 1894. For 30 straight seasons, from 1966 to 1995, the Owls' helmets consisted of cherry shells.
Temple will continue to dress in the Nike uniforms they have worn since 2001.
