TRACK & FIELD COACH GEORGE PHILLIPS RETIRES

"On behalf of Temple and its Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, I would like to thank Coach Phillips for his many years of exceptional service to the University," said Bradshaw. "We wish George and his family all the best in the future."
Phillips recently completed his fifth season as head coach of the Owls. He has been a member of the Temple track coaching staff for 21 years, serving as an assistant coach before succeeding Chuck Alexander as head coach in 1999. Temple has become the top women's sprint team in the Atlantic 10 Conference under his tutelage. Phillips has produced numerous all-conference performers the past five years and many ECAC and IC4A qualifers. The Owls have bettered many team and conference records.
Prior to joining the Temple coaching staff, he was the head women's coach at La Salle University from 1979 to 1982.
Phillips graduated from Temple University in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in health and physical education. He was part of the first graduation class of the School of HPERD at Temple.
A native of Philadelphia, Phillips has taught health and physical education in the Philadelphia School System for the past 28 years. He lives in the city with his wife, Rosemary, and children William, Kristen and Kimberly.
