FORMER TEMPLE DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR VINCE HOCH PASSES AWAY AT THE AGE OF 66

Vince Hoch, who served as defensive coordinator at Temple under Wayne Hardin from 1970-82, passed away peacefully at Harrisburg (Pa.) Hospital on Friday, July 16 at the age of 66. He battled lung-related problems in recent years.

After joining Temple football as a member of Hardin's inaugural staff in 1970, Hoch was elevated to the position of Assistant Head Coach in 1981. During his tenure in Owl Country, Temple earned a Garden State Bowl II victory over California in 1979 with a 10-2 overall record. The Cherry & White also posted impressive marks in 1970 (7-3), 1973 (9-1), 1974 (8-2) and 1978 (7-3-1). All-American's under Hoch's direction included Joe Klecko, Mike Curcio and Steve Conjar.

Hoch also held collegiate coaching positions at Memphis State, Kansas, Mississippi State, Tulane and North Carolina.

Hoch is survived by his father, Vince J. Hoch, of Harrisburg; his wife, Connie, of Harrisburg; a daughter, Sharon Baxter, of Millville, N.J., and granddaughter, Olivia; and his sister, also of Harrisburg.

Hoch's life will be celebrated in a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20, at Hetrick Funeral Home, 3125 Walnut Street, Harrisburg. There will be a visitation from 6 to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
