PHILADELPHIA-Bruce Seidman has been named head strength and conditioning coach, it was announced today by the Temple University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Seidman arrives in Owl Country with over 12 years of collegiate strength and conditioning experience, most recently serving as head strength and conditioning coach at San Jose State University.

Seidman has served as head strength and conditioning coach at San Jose State since April 2002. During his tenure with the Spartans, he designed and implemented all phases of strength, speed, power and conditioning for football, while coordinating the development of all varsity sports through sports-specific programs. In 2002, Seidman's year-round strength and conditioning program allowed the football team to endure and realize success in a 13-week, 13-game schedule that included nine road contests. San Jose State players missed just 10 player-games total, the least number of missed contests by the Spartans for any year records are available. In 2003, San Jose State players missed minimal games due to injuries. In terms of weight room performance, those who met his minimum requirements for outstanding marks more than tripled in the clean, squat and vertical jump categories.

Prior to his stay in San Jose, Calif., Seidman spent four years as head strength and conditioning coach at Idaho State University from 1998 to 2002. At Idaho State, he redesigned the weight room, established the Bengal Ironworks Fund that raised over $30,000, and transformed the school's strength and conditioning center into one of the best training facilities in the Rocky Mountain area.

Seidman's 12-year coaching career includes positions at nationally-prominent football schools, Brigham Young, Texas, Michigan and Virginia. He also worked at the University of Delaware - one of the top Division I-AA football schools in the country.

Seidman has worked with over 75 players that have graduated to careers in the National Football League. Two of the more visible football players are 1998 Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams of Texas and Brigham Young's Rob Morris, winner of the 1999 Butkus Award.

A native of Plainview, N.Y., Seidman graduated from the University of Delaware in 1994 with a degree in fitness management. He earned his master's degree in kinesiology from the University of Texas in 1995. Seidman is a United States Weightlifting Senior Coach (Level II) and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
