TEMPLE FOOTBALL HOLDS ANNUAL MEDIA DAY
8.24.04 | Football
The Temple University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics held its annual football media day today at the Edberg-Olson Hall football facility. The 2004 edition of Owls' football, 105 players strong plus coaches and support staff, met with the media on the new, Sprinturf surface of Chodoff Field.
A large media contingency of both electronic and print media was in attendance to seek comment on the team's upcoming season. Head coach Bobby Wallace opened the event before players and assistant coaches were made available to answer questions and pose for photographs. Quarterback Walter Washington and All-America linebacker Rian "Goo" Wallace drew the largest crowds. Delaware Valley products, including linebacker Troy Bennett, defensive end Mike Mendenhall, wide receiver Michael Loveland and defensive end John Adams, also received much attention from suburban outlets.
Among the newcomers, Temple's pair of JC Grid-Wire First-Team Junior College All-Americans, running back Tim Brown and placekicker Ryan Lux, also proved to be media favorites during the informal interview format.
Only 10 days remain before the Owls' season opener versus Virginia, a nationally televised (ESPN2) contest on Saturday, September 4 at 12 noon within the friendly confines of Lincoln Financial Field. The Cavaliers are ranked No. 16 in the Associated Press preseason poll and No. 19 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll. The game will mark the first meeting between the universities on the gridiron.
