WOMEN'S TENNIS OPENS STRONG AT HAMPTON ROADS COLLEGIATE TOURNAMENT

NORFOLK, VA - The Temple women's tennis team opened its 2004-05 season under first year coach Traci Green at the Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational hosted by Old Dominion University. The Owls won all five of the matches they competed at during the tournament's first day of action Friday, September 17.

Junior Ana Maslesa won both of her matches at Flight A singles, defeating Ashley Hanak, 6-1, 7-5, and Kristen Endlich, 7-5, 6-2, to advance to the quarterfinals. Junior Laura Seiverling and sophomore Jen Goeta both advanced to the semifinals at Flight C singles. Goetta downed Martina Rezic, 6-2, 6-1, while Laura Seiverling defeated Brandi Kligmna, 6-2, 6-1. Senior Lauren Verrall also advanced to the quarterfinals by virtue of two byes at Flight B singles.

Maslesa and Verrall defeated Hanak and Erin Schanke, 8-2, to move into the quarterfinal round at Flight A doubles. Goeta and Sieverling advanced to the semis in Flight B doubles by virtue of two byes while the lone Owl loss came at Flight C doubles.
