NORFOLK, VA - Junior Laura Seiverling defeated teammate Jen Goeta in the finals of Flight C singles to lead a strong showing by the Temple women's tennis team at the Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational hosted by Old Dominion University September 17-18. It marked the debut of first year Owl head coach Traci Green.

Seiverling was leading 6-3, 2-1 when her sophomore teammate had to retire due to injury. Seiverling had advanced through her semifinal match due to an opponent's injury while Goeta downed Martina Rezic, 6-2, 6-1 in the semis.

Junior Ana Maslesa was leading Ewa Kleczek of Norfolk State, 4-1, in her Flight A quarterfinal match before she retired. Her semifinal opponent did not show which put her into the finals against Marianna Yferova. The match may well have been the best of the season-opening tournament. Maslesa won the first set, 7-5 before dropping the second one, 6-1. Yferova won the third set tie-breaker, 1-0.

Maslesa and Lauren Verrall then dropped a hotly-contested Flight A quarterfinal doubles match, 9-7, to Jennifer Itonyo/Flaminia Migone of Norfolk State. Verrall fell to ODU's Barbara Costa in Flight B singles match, 7-5, 6-1.

The Owls competes September 24-26 at the Cissie Leary Invitational hosted by Penn.
