SIENA EDGES TEMPLE, 1-0, IN WOMEN'S SOCCER ACTION

9.22.04 | Women's Soccer

LOUDONVILLE, NY - A goal by Siena's Megan Helf in the 58th minute proved to be enough for the Saints to top Temple, 1-0, in women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon. Senior goalie Jackie Mauro performed admirably in net making 12 saves, but the Owl offense could muster only two shots to fall to 2-4. Siena improves its record to 3-5.

With 57:12 showing on the clock, Helf took a pass from Kristen Turner on the right side and drilled it past Mauro for the game's only tally. The Saints outshot Temple, 21-2, and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. Since erupting for six goals three weeks ago against Canisius, the Owl offense has managed just a single goal in the last three contests.

Temple returns to the pitch on Friday in the Atlantic 10 opener against Saint Joseph's at the Ambler Soccer Complex. Game time is 4 p.m.
