WOMEN'S SOCCER TIES ST. JOE'S, 2-2

10.21.05 | Women's Soccer

AMBLER, PA -- Temple tied cross-town and Atlantic 10 Conference rival Saint Joseph's 2-2, at Ambler Field Friday afternoon in women's soccer.  This is the first tie of the season for the Owls (2-13-1, 1-5-1) who were coming off a 3-2 double-overtime win over George Washington on Sunday. St. Joe's is now 7-7-3, 3-2-2.

The Hawks netted the only goal of the first half when senior Alisha Paine's corner kick found the net at 10:41. The Hawks registered an additional 10 shots in the half, but Temple goalkeeper Tiffany Kasunich continuously shut them down. Temple attempted only two shots in the first half.

The Owls came out on fire in the second half when freshman Charisma Wright tied the match at 52:06 with a midfield breakaway that beat Hawk goalkeeper Nicole DiEnna. This was the second goal of the season for Wright, who scored the game-winner against George Washington. St. Joe's went back ahead at 69:46 as Paine's cross found junior defender Kaiti McCaffery. The Owls came back just three minutes later when junior Darlene Beamon fought through the traffic in front of the Hawks' net and slammed one home.

Temple's best chance in the extra frames came in the second overtime when freshman Katrina Lynch went in on a breakaway from midfield. Her attempt was denied by DiEnna (four saves).

Kasunich had an outstanding performance with 13 saves, including one off of a penalty shot. The Hawks out shot the Owls, 28-13.

The Owls next play Wagner in a non-conference match on Sunday, October 23. This will be the last home game of the season and an opportunity for Owl fans to say goodbye to graduating seniors Jacyln Conn, Kate Lamplugh, and Samantha and Stephanie Vietry.
