RAY LAMB A CANDIDATE FOR FWAA COURAGE AWARD

PHILADELPHIA - The Football Writers Association of America and the FedEx Orange Bowl have named Temple senior cornerback Ray Lamb a candidate for the 2005 FWAA Courage Award. Lamb is one of 11 candidates for the Award, which is presented annually for courageous action on or off the field, overcoming injury or physical handicap, preventing a disaster or living through a lifetime of hardship.
Lamb completed a miraculous comeback last season when he was in the starting lineup versus Florida A&M on Sept. 18. He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee just five months earlier during the Cherry & White spring game on April 24, 2004. Initially, doctor prognosis placed Lamb's return for summer 2005 after Lamb underwent surgery on May 20. His hard work and dedication gradually moved up his return date and he started six games, making 22 tackles (14 solo), one PBU and both a forced fumble and recovery. After the season, in spring 2005, Lamb had arthroscopic surgery on the same knee.
This season, Lamb (5-10, 185) has started all eight games at right cornerback and has made 47 tackles (23 solo), 2.5 TFLs, two interceptions, a forced fumble and five pass break-ups.
Is in his second year as President of the Temple University Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Lamb serves as a huddle leadership counselor and speaks at high schools and banquets for FCA. He also volunteers his time at Our Lady of Hope Church, located at 19th and Tioga Streets in Philadelphia, working as a youth counselor and young adult group leader. Lamb has participated in various outdoor ministries in the Greater Philadelphia Area and is an active member in Temple Teammates, a community service program conducted by the Department of Athletics to raise consciousness and awareness in young people on aspects of leadership, positive character development and high ethical standards.
A member of the 2003 Big East Conference All-Academic Team, Lamb is a biology major who has earned multiple citations on the Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll. He was recipient of the team's 2004 Dr. Arthur N. Cook Most Courageous Athlete Award.
Lamb, whose father is a "full bird" colonel and brigade commander in the United States Army, arrived in Owl Country in spring 2003 from New Mexico Military Institute. He was born in Frankfurt, Germany and graduated from Seoul (South Korea) High School in 2001.
