WOMEN'S SOCCER FINISHES UNBEATEN IN LAST FIVE AS SENIORS SAY GOODBYE

10.30.05 | Women's Soccer

BRONX, NY -- Temple women's soccer, undefeated in its last five games, completed its 2005 regular season and conference schedules with a 1-1 tie against Atlantic 10 Conference rival Fordham on Sunday at Jack Coffey Field. Charisma Wright scored the game-tying goal with just over five minutes left in regulation.  With the tie, Temple closes out the regular season with a 4-13-2 overall record, 2-5-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Fordham finishes with a 9-8-1 overall record, 3-5-1 in the conference.

The Rams found the net at 17:04, recording the only goal of the first half.  Katie Sanchez, who scored her sixth goal of the year, grabbed a loose ball left, carried it down the field, and beat Temple goalkeeper Tiffany Kasunich on the ground from 15 yards out.

The game would remain a 1-0 contest until Temple standout freshman Charisma Wright collected a loose ball and got off a shot that Fordham keeper Julie Wynns saved.  Wright retreived the rebound and beat the fallen keeper to the far post to tie the game with 5:25 remaining in regulation. Each team recorded two shots in overtime, but to no avail.

Wynns made two saves before getting injured on the Temple goal, while Allie Cacciotti recorded two saves after replacing her. Kasunich finished with seven saves for the Owls. Fordham held the competitive advantage on both shots (13-8) and corner kicks (7-2).

Stephanie Vietry, Samantha Vietey, Jaclyn Conn and Kate Lamplugh were playing in her final game for the Cherry and White.  Each player was in the starting line up today. These women were important team members and each will be missed for their spirit and determination.
