PHILADELPHIA -- A limited number of tickets go on sale today for this Saturday's Philadelphia Big 5 Classic 5 which tips off the 50th Anniversary season Philadelphia Big 5 basketball. This year's Classic features a doubleheader held at the historic Palestra on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. The La Salle Explorers take on the Drexel Dragons at noon while the Temple Owls battle the Penn Quakers at 2:30 p.m.
With such high demands on tickets for the Classic, the Big 5 Office has decided to open ticket sales to the general public two days early. For tickets to the Classic, please contact the Temple University ticket office at 215-204-8499 or stop by the Liacouras Center Box Office.
The agreement to have the five major Philadelphia universities play doubleheaders at the Palestra was announced on November 23, 1954. That agreement still holds true to this day as the Philadelphia Big 5 celebrates its 50th Anniversary season in 2005-06.
