12.27.05 | Football
PHILADELPHIA - Mike Siravo, who spent the last three seasons as linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator at Columbia University, has been named to the football staff by Temple head Coach Al Golden. Siravo will serve as recruiting coordinator and defensive assistant for the Owls, instructing either the secondary or linebackers.
"I had the privilege of working with Mike Siravo while at Boston College," said Golden. "I can say unequivocally that there is no person who can better implement my recruiting philosophy than he can. Serving as recruiting coordinator at Columbia over the past three years has given Mike the foundation necessary to positively impact our future recruiting campaigns.
"Mike is bright, industrious and a problem-solver by nature. In addition to being a great recruiter, Mike is an excellent teacher and motivator of his student-athletes. It was easy to see early in his career that Mike was going to make a great coach and I told him before I left BC that I hoped we would have the opportunity to work together in the future. We are very fortunate to have him on our staff here at Temple University."
At Columbia, Siravo developed a system to streamline the Lion's nationwide recruiting efforts under head coach Bob Shoop. The linebacking corps was also considerably strengthened under his tutelage, with senior Chuck Britton earning All-Ivy accolades in 2004.
A former linebacker at Boston College, Siravo joined the Eagles as a walk-on in 1994 and later earned a scholarship. A two-year letterwinner and part-time starter, he earned letters in 1996 and 1997 under Dan Henning and Tom O'Brien, respectively. In addition to his contributions on the field, Siravo excelled in the classroom, earning Big East All-Academic team honors as a senior. He also made his first contact with Golden, who coached the Eagles' outside linebackers in 1997 and 1998, before instructing inside linebackers in 1999.
Upon graduation, Siravo remained in Chestnut Hill and began his coaching career as a graduate assistant for recruiting in 1998. The Eagles' February 1999 recruiting class was rated the best in school history, ranking 15th nationally according to expert Tom Lemming and featuring future NFL players William Green, Augie Hoffman, Keith Leavitt and Derrick Knight. Siravo spent the 1999 and 2000 campaigns as Boston College's defensive graduate assistant, working with the secondary and linebackers. The Eagles made two postseason bowl appearances, playing Colorado in the 1999 Insight.com Bowl and defeating Arizona State in the 2000 Aloha Bowl.
Born March 9, 1976, Siravo is a native of Pawtucket, R.I. and earned his undergraduate degree in history from Boston College in 1998. He received a master's of science in administrative studies of business, also from BC, in 2000. He is married to the former Alison Cahill.
