SOFTBALL FALLS TO EAST TENNESSEE STATE IN FINAL GAME OF TRIANGLE CLASSIC

CHAPEL HILL, NC -- Sophomore Richelle Villescas tossed a two-hitter, but East Tennessee State plated an unearned run in the fifth and held on for a 1-0 win over the Temple softball team in their final game of the Triangle Classic hosted by the University of North Carolina. The loss dropped the Owls to 2-3 on the season.
Villescas, who looked to be in mid-season form in Temple's opening weekend of the 2005 season, struck out five ETSU (3-2) batters in evening her record to 2-2. She allowed just three earned runs for the weekend.
Belinda Barrera pitched a stellar game for the ETSU, struck out nine and allowed just two hits in earning the shutout. Jessica Lonsinger, who reached base via an error, scored the winning run off a single by Jessica Payne.
Laura Gutscher was the lone bright spot on the Owl offense, going one-for-three at the plate with a stolen base.
Temple travels back to North Carolina next weekend for the Holiday Inn Green & White hosted by the University of Charlotte. The Owls open play in that tourney with Kent State on Friday at 9:00 a.m.
