RUTGERS TOPS TEMPLE IN WOMEN'S TENNIS

PISCATAWAY, NJ -- The Temple women's tennis team played another tightly-contested match, only to fall to host Rutgers, 5-2, Friday afternoon. The Owls (1-3), won only the top two singles matches on the day. The Scarlet Knights improved to 3-2 on the season.
Junior Ana Maslesa continued her dominance for the Owls at the number one slot, defeating Katrina Elder-Bush, 6-1, 6-1. She also teamed with sophomore Yuri Kurashima, who won her second singles match, for an 8-4 win at number one doubles. The Cherry and White lost the second and third doubles positions to drop the first point of the match.
Junior Laura Seiverling played in the most exciting match of the competition, falling to Anela Dujsic, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) at third singles. At fourth singles Alina Balasa downed Temple senior Lauren Verrall, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, while Sharanya Pattabi fell 6-2, 6-3 at fifth singles to Lauren Edelschein. Sophomore Jennifer Goeta lost at sixth singles, 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 (tie-breaker).
The Owls now take a two-week break before heading to South Carolina for Spring Break. Temple next plays at Coastal Carolina on March 9.
