WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS 10-6 AT #8 UNC IN SEASON OPENER

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-Allison Frengs scored a late goal to bring Temple within one tally of #8 UNC but it was not enough as the Tar Heels responded with two goals to defeat the Owls, 10-6 in TU's 2005 season opener on Friday night. The Owls fall to 0-1 on the season, while UNC improves to 1-1.
In the first half, UNC jumped out to a 4-1 lead on goals by Stephanie Scurachio, Allison Higgins, Christina Juras and Jess Allen. After sitting out last season due to injury, Patty Glavin rebounded to score two first-half goals and Frengs, Megan Condon and freshman Berkley Summerlin each added one goal to cut Carolina's lead to one goal, 6-5, going into the half.
Erica LaGrow scored an unassisted goal 2:05 into the second half to give UNC a 7-5 lead, but Frengs cut the lead back to one goal with a goal just under four minutes remaining. Just when it looked as if the Owls could pull off an upset, Carolina fired back with three goals to take the 10-6 victory. Juras scored unassisted goals at 43:25 and 57:34, sandwiching a Scurachio goal for the final tally.
Megan McLouth faced 25 UNC shots in her first start of the 2005 season, allowing just 10 goals. Though the Tar Heels held a slight lead in ground balls (19-15), the Owls had a 9-7 draw control advantage.
Temple returns home to take on Colgate on March 5th at 1 p.m. on Geasey Field.
