PHILADELPHIA- Penn's Ali Ryan netted four goals and dished two assists to lead Penn, 10-4, over Temple on Wednesday afternoon at Temple's Geasey Field. The Owls fall to 1-2 on the season, while the Quakers improve to 2-1.
The first half proved to be quite physical, as four Penn players were given yellow cards in the first 10 minutes of the game. Temple jumped out to an early 1-0 lead to begin the contest, off of an unassisted goal by freshman Whitney Richards. Richards caught a pass at the 25-yard line and cradled down for her first collegiate goal at 23:10. That would be the last time that the Owls would see the back of the net in the first half, however, as the Quakers scored five straight goals to take a 5-1 lead at the half. Ryan began her three goal scoring barrage at 11:48 after taking a feed from freshman Rachel Manson. She struck again just a minute and a half later at 10:04, assisted by Emily Cochran, to make it 2-1 Quakers. Freshman Allison Ambrozy assisted on Ryan's third goal at 4:25 to put the score at 3-1. Manson added an unassisted tally at 3:07 but Ryan wasn't finished as she and Cochran teamed to score the half's last goal with just 57 seconds remaining.
Chrissy Muller gave Penn a five goal lead at the start of the second half with a free position goal at 25:56. After earning a yellow card in the first half, Catherine Wooters was called again for dangerous play and ejected from the game at 22:57. This allowed Corey Leader to finally stop Penn's scoring frenzy with an unassisted goal at 22:57. Leader, who was among the team's scoring leaders last season, warded off multiple defenders in the arc to fire a high shot past Penn goalie Liz Lorelli. Manson and Ryan teamed for a goal at 18:58, making it 7-2, but Patty Glavin answered with Temple's third goal five minutes later. Cochran and Allie Juras added the final three goals for Penn to bring the Quakers to 10 but Leader found the back of the net once more before the half was finished to make the final score 10-4. Glavin fed the ball in to a cutting Leader for her first goal of the season.
TU goalie Megan McLouth earned 10 saves in the loss, while Lorelli totaled 12.
Next up for the Owls is a trip to the alma mater of Assistant Coach B.J. Lucey, Penn State. Temple takes on the Nittany Lions on March 22 at 3 p.m.
