PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's tennis team downed Atlantic 10 Conference rival George Washington, 4-3, in its home opener at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Complex Thursday.  The Owls improved their record to 3-4 while GW fell to 2-4.

 

The Owls started strong, posting a sweep in doubles play to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Owl junior Ana Maslesa took a rare defeat at number one singles to Anastasia Skavronskaia, 6-4, 6-3, but Temple's Yuri Kurashima downed Sandra Simunic, 6-4, 6-3 to even singles play.  Jen Goeta and Sharanya Pattabi closed out the match for Temple, winning at number four and six singles to propel the Owls to the win.

 

Temple next play at Penn on Saturday (2:00 p.m.).
