WOMEN'S TENNIS FALLS TO #57 PENN, 7-0

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's tennis team fell to Penn, the 57th-ranked team in the nation, Saturday afternoon at the Levy Tennis Pavilion, 7-0. The Owls fall to 3-5 on the season while the Quakers improve to 6-4.
The Quakers started out the match by winning the doubles point. The team of Shelah Chao and Julia Koulbitskaya defeated TU's Ana Maslesa and Yuri Kurashima, 8-2, at #1 doubles. Penn's Michelle Mitchell and Raluca Ciochia downed Laura Seiverling and Sharanya Pattabi, 8-5, at second doubles while Kate Williams and Caroline Stanislawski completed the doubles sweep for the Quakers with an 8-3 win over Jen Goeta and Lauren Verrall.
In singles action, Yulia Rivelis topped Maslesa at number one, 6-1, 6-7(3), 1-0(3). Kurashima fell to Koulbitskaya, 7-6 (5), 6-4, at second singles while Mitchell defeated Verrall, 6-1, 6-0, in the third position.
At fourth singles, Chao defeated Seiverling, 6-1, 7-6 (4), while the number five singles match going to Williams, 6-1, 6-1, over Goeta. Sara Schiffman completed the singles sweep for Penn with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Pattabi, 6-2, 6-2, at the sixth slot.
Temple next hosts Massachusetts on March 24 at 4:00 p.m. at the TU Pavilion.
