UNIVERSITY PARK, PA - Patty Glavin recorded a hat-trick and scored the eventual game-winner as Temple knocked off #2 Penn State, 6-5, on Tuesday at Bigler Field. Corey Leader added two tallies and Allison Frengs chipped in one while goalie Megan McLouth faced 21 shots, allowing five goals and making 12 saves.
The Owls (2-2) opened up scoring in the game on an unassisted goal by Glavin at 21:14. Penn State (5-2) evened the score at 1-1 less than two minutes later on a free position goal by Karen Long. Leader scored her first goal of the game with 15:40 remaining in the half to put the Owls back up, 2-1, before Lori Havrilla answered 30 seconds later on an unassisted goal to knot the score at 2-2. But Temple went on a run, receiving goals from Glavin, Leader and Frengs over the next 13 minutes to take the 5-2 lead into halftime.
Out of the break, a free position goal by Linsey Shea pulled the Lions to within two at 5-3 less than three minutes into the second half. But Glavin scored to push the Owl lead back to three, 6-3, with just over 25 minutes remaining in the game. A goal by Kristen Burke at the 15:53 mark trimmed the Temple lead to two and a Lindsay Dutch score with 14:18 remaining in the game pulled the Lions to within one at 6-5, but the two teams would play the last 14 minutes without a goal to secure the Owls' 6-5 victory.
Temple returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Old Dominion at 1 p.m.
