UMASS TOPS TEMPLE, 4-3, IN WOMEN'S TENNIS

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 match to Atlantic 10 Conference rival Massachusetts Thursday.  The Owls fall to 3-7 on the season while UMass improves to 9-6.

The Owls started the day by losing the doubles point at the Riverside Aquatics and Fitness Center.  Temple's number one doubles team of Ana Maslesa and Yuri Kurashima won their match, 8-3, but UMass rebounded to take the second and third doubles matches to win the point.

The match then moved to the Levy Pavilion on Penn's campus with Maslesa posting a 6-1, 6-1 win over Minutewomen freshman Mashsa Pozar at first singles.  Kursahima dropped a three-setter at the #2 slot while Temple's Lauren Verrall and Jennifer Goeta fell in straight sets at third and fourth singles, respectively.

Laura Seiverling and Saranya Pattabi won their matches for the Owls, with Pattabi winning, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) at sixth singles.

Temple next plays defending A-10 Champion Richmond on Saturday at the Arthur Ashe Center (4:30 p.m.).
