PHILADELPHIA- After knocking off the #2 team in the nation on Tuesday, the Temple women's lacrosse team continued its winnning ways, taking down the Old Dominion Monarchs, 13-12, in overtime on Saturday afternoon. The Owls overcame an 8-1 deficit to send the game into overtime. Temple improves to 3-2 on the year, while the Monarchs fall to 2-3.
The Owls struck first with Corey Leader coming off the bench to reach the back of the Lady Monarch net just three and half minutes to the contest. However, from there Old Dominion took control of the offense, rattling off eight straight unanswered goals for a 8-1 led with 3:24 left in the first half. Allison Frengs and Johna Capaldo had two quick tallies in the final three minutes to cut the deficit to 8-3 at the intermission.
However in half number two, the Owls took control, allowing the Lady Monarchs just three goals and four shots on net. Frengs scored on a free position shot at 17:28 and Whitney Richards made it 10-6 a minute later. Patty Glavin scored her first of four tallies at 14:03 and Frengs added one more at 6:10 to make it 10-8. Ashley Stanwick interrupted Temple's scoring run for a tally a minute later but it would be just a hiccup in the Owl offense, as Temple went on to score three goals in a span of 39 seconds to force overtime. Megan Condon started it off at 1:46 and Glavin added two more at 1:18 and 1:07 to tie the score at 11.
Glavin struck first in overtime and Condon added one more before ODU found the back of the net.
Megan McLouth earned four saves in 69 minutes of action. Glavin and Frengs led the Owls with four goals a piece. Lindsey Wells and Hillary Richards were superb on defense, with each causing four Monarch turnovers.
Temple continues its home stand with a game against LaSalle on March 30 at 3 p.m.
